Disney World Ride Closures 2026: What’s Down Right Now

Hey friend! If you’ve been scrolling Disney news lately, you’ve probably seen a post or two about closures and construction happening around Walt Disney World. And if you’re trying to plan a trip, that can feel a little stressful. Nobody wants to build a whole itinerary around a ride that turns out to be closed.

So let’s talk about it. Here’s everything I know about Disney World ride closures 2026, straight from someone who tracks this stuff so my clients don’t have to.

Refurbishments happen every single year at Disney World. Rides need new tracks, new paint, new technology, and sometimes a full reimagining into something even better. It’s part of how the parks stay magical for the long haul. But that doesn’t make it any less annoying when you’re trying to plan the trip of a lifetime and your favorite ride is roped off.

Disney World Ride Closures 2026 at a Glance

Before we dive park by park, here’s the short version. Right now, closures cluster around three areas: Magic Kingdom’s Frontierland expansion, Animal Kingdom’s DinoLand transformation, and a handful of resort dining spots. Here’s the full breakdown below.

What’s Currently Closed at Magic Kingdom

Magic Kingdom is in the middle of its biggest expansion ever, and that means a few beloved spots are offline right now.

  • Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress closed right after Independence Day this year as Disney kicks off its next round of maintenance projects. No word yet on how long this one will run.
  • Liberty Square Riverboat and Tom Sawyer Island are gone for good. Disney permanently closed the Rivers of America section back in 2025 to make room for Piston Peak, a new Cars-inspired land coming to Frontierland.

Tip from Mell: if a specific attraction is the whole reason you’re going, always check the official Disney World website the week of your trip. Refurbishment dates shift more often than you’d think, and I’d rather you know before you land in Orlando than after.

What’s Closed at EPCOT

EPCOT tends to have quieter refurbishment stretches, but there’s one to note.

  • Vacation Fun, the animated short in World Celebration, has been closed since late April and won’t be back until later this year. Disney has been using the space for special merchandise events, so don’t expect it to reopen anytime soon.

What’s Happening at Animal Kingdom

This is the big one, friend. If DINOSAUR was on your list, I’ve got news.

  • DINOSAUR permanently closed in February. The whole DinoLand U.S.A. area is being reimagined into Tropical Americas, a brand new land bringing an Encanto attraction and an Indiana Jones ride to the park. This is a multi-year project, with the new land expected to open in 2027.

If your family loved that corner of Animal Kingdom, I know this one stings a little. But the payoff sounds worth the wait.

Resort and Dining Closures Worth Knowing About

Rides aren’t the only thing affected. A few dining and resort spots are worth building into your planning.

  • Grand Floridian Cafe closes mid-July and is expected back in October.
  • Yachtsman Steakhouse at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort is closed now, with a reopening planned for August.
  • Disney Skyliner will close for a week, January 24 through January 30, 2027, with complimentary buses running in its place.

Tip from Mell: if your trip lands during any of these windows and you already have dining reservations, I always recommend having a backup restaurant in mind. Disney will cancel reservations automatically if a location closes, and you don’t want to be scrambling on vacation.

Steal This Idea: Build a “Plan B” List

Before your trip, I always have my clients jot down a second-choice attraction or restaurant for anything on their must-do list. If Carousel of Progress or your dinner spot ends up closed, you’ll already have a backup ready instead of standing in the park googling “what else is there to do here” while your kids melt down.

Not sure how to plan around all these moving pieces? That’s literally what I’m here for.

Bonus Tip

Construction walls and closed attractions don’t mean a boring trip. Some of Disney’s best new experiences, like the Muppets takeover at Hollywood Studios and the updated Soarin’ film, came out of exactly this kind of refurbishment cycle. Change is part of the magic.

Recap: What to Do Before Your Trip

  • Check the official Disney World website the week of your visit for the most current closure list
  • Have a backup ride or restaurant in mind for anything that matters most to your family
  • Remember that permanent closures (like DINOSAUR) usually mean something even bigger is coming
  • Sign up for updates so you’re never caught off guard mid-trip
